Extraordinary Outpouring: "Why We Baptize" By Rev. J.R. Goodwin. (Click on title above to hear recording) Recording Description: In this message, you will hear the Holy Spirit's manifestation of two of His gifts: the gift of tongues, and the gift of the interpretation of tongues. (I Cor. 12:10). Two women from the congregation, Sister Brandt, and Sister Knapp each give a message in tongues, and Dad interprets both. (I Cor. 14:27). Additionally, Sister Brandt is lead of the Spirit to act out the message in tongues as she is speaking it, in this manner: After Dad acknowledged her, she arose from the congregation and came to the platform. She crosses the platform, opens a side door, steps through it, and turns to face the congregation. She closes the door to the place where it is open only about 12 inches, and she gives the message in tongues, while slowly closing the door to the point where it is open only a couple of inches. Dad interprets the message. Sister Knapp follows with another message in tongues, and Dad interprets that one too. It is interesting to note that Sister Knapp gives the message in tongues in a very emotional manner, but Dad stands there on the platform and calmly gives the interpretation.
As you will hear, there was and still is, a powerful anointing in those messages. People who were present in this service have told me that to this day they have not forgotten the convicting power of God that came through these messages. The anointing is so strong and so obvious in this recording that tears just roll when I listen to this. Much can be learned from this recording about spiritual order, and the operation of spiritual gifts. The two women who give messages in tongues are some distance from the microphone, and sound equipment was not as sophisticated as it is today, leaving the women's voices to sound very high-pitched. You will hear the women become very emotional and weep as they speak out these messages, and the emotion comes partially from the fact that these messages are messages of rebuke and warning, bringing great conviction. But even though these messages in tongues are highly emotional, Dad interprets each in a calm manner. Dad follows this move of the Spirit with a sermon on water baptism, that really can't be called just a sermon. It is the equivalent of a 2 or 3 day seminar on baptism, compressed down to just 45 to 50 minutes. This recording is an excellent example of spiritual order: the sisters waited for Dad to acknowledge them and give them permission to flow in the Spirit before they gave the messages in tongues.
