"The Wigglesworth Prophecy"

     On this recording, made in 1970, Brother David DuPlessis shares that he was filled with the Spirit in 1918 and entered the ministry in 1920.  While heading a missionary organization in his native South Africa, which was originally begun by John G. Lake and followers of John Alexander Dowie, David DuPlessis became good friends with Smith Wigglesworth.

     DuPlessis tells of Wigglesworth's early life, his ministry in Johannesburg, and of having Wigglesworth live with him in his home for several months.  At meetings in South Africa, Wigglesworth preached in English and DuPlessis interpreted the messages into Afrikaans.  He tells several delightful stories of Wigglesworth's habits and compares Wigglesworth's healing ministry to that of others he had known:  Branham, T.L. Osborne, Tommy Hicks, and Stephen and George Jeffreys in England.  DuPlesses also knew some 70 healing evangelsits through the Voice of Healing organization, and states that "not one of them had the healing ministry that Wigglesworth had."

     In 1936, Wigglesworth bursts into David's office, demands that he stand up, puts his hands on his shoulders, shoves him against the wall, and begins prophesying to him.  He prophesies in 1936 what began to came to pass nearly 20 years later in the Charismatic Renewal.  God used David DuPlessis to bring the Baptism in the Holy Spirit into many old-line and Catholic churches.  Wigglesworth ends the prophecy by saying, "It's no use.  I can't tell you anymore because there are some things that even I don't understand, and I don't know how to explain them to you"  After prophesying, Wigglesworth bowed his head and prayed, "Lord, bless it."

     There is a great lesson to be learned from Brother David's reaction to Wigglesworth's prophecy.  After Wigglesworth prophesied, he asked him if he had scripture to back up the prophecy.  You see, even though he knew Wigglesworth, he judged even the prophecy of Wigglesworth by God's written word.  So should we all do with every prophecy that is spoken in our midst.

     Explaining the meaning of the prophecy, Wigglesworth said the first movement of the Spirit would be a layman's movement.  The second one, a clergy movement, and he quotes some passages in scripture to confirm the validity of the prophecy.

     God warned David to "remain humble and faithful."   He said that as God opened the door for him to minister among the old line denominational churches--for which he was bitterly criticized--he never compromised and never apologized for the Pentecostal message.
