  "Prayer,"

by Rev. J.R. Goodwin.
(Click on title above to hear recording)

This was a service in which Brother Goodwin came to the church, stirred in his spirit to teach, but to also caution and warn believers of the dangers that arise from a life without prayer.  He speaks of the disasters set in motion in the lives of Christians and even over entire cities, because of a lack of prayer.

He expresses shock at the actors and actress of Hollywood [this was 1964], saying of many of them, "Their immorality IS their fame."  And he laments how Hollywood is glamourizing immorality.  And he talks of the insensity it is so easy to get into, but he rightly points out that "if you will give yourselves to prayer, you'll begin to see the wrong in them."

The Holy Spirit manifests several times in the service through tongues and interpretation, confirming the message as it was being preached, and demonstrating to us that our God is a Holy God.

This recording is sobering to listen to when you consider the fact that this message was preached over 40 years ago.  You can tell by the tone of his voice that Brother Goodwin was frankly shocked and ashamed of what he was witnessing in Hollywood, in movies, and in our culture.  And my brethren, we look back on the movies made in 1964, and the level of the immorality and blasphemy in them is child's play compared to what is common in our day.

Yet unless we turn our homes and our churches into houses of prayer, our consciences will not be pricked at all concerning what is far worse today.  Like blind men, we will not know at what we stumble when the Devil gets an advantage of us.

Listen to, and take to heart the exhortation to prayer Brother Goodwin gives in this recording.
